Tugu Muda Semarang

Tugu Muda is a stone monument in Semarang, Java commemorating the struggle for independence by Indonesian youth. It was dedicated by President Sukarno on 20 May 1953 to commemorate the continuous five-day battle between the youth of Semarang and a Japanese battalion led by Major Kido from 14–19 October 1945.

Japanese forces drove the Dutch from Indonesia as the "elder brother of Asia"; however, the Japanese were crueler to dissidents than their Dutch counterparts.

The stone monument consists of a foundation, body and head. One side of the monument is done in relief, with ornamental ponds and gardens surrounding it.

            Indonesia is one of flooded country in the world especially in Jakarta. Everybody know that every year Jakarta will be affected by flooding. Until in the end, Jakarta became an agenda of the annual disaster Indonesia.

            Every year the government had been searched the problem solve of this annual flood. But, citizen only turn over to the government to do alone without they help too.

            But, if I see almost all citizen in Jakarta are too minus about the danger of flood for their health and how the effect of their live while the flood is on going. How the flood can stop or can minimize if all citizen in Jakarta didn’t have an awareness? Jakarta is a poor city when the rains coming. But, not only rain to be a factor. In this essay, let me to tell you the factors of flooding in Jakarta, what the causing of it, and also how the effect in daily life when the flood was going.

            The first, the flood is caused by human factors. One of human factors is an informal resident of people Indonesia (settlement) in the area along the river. The citizens also throw their all garbage in the river too. So, it makes all the garbage piles up on the river and when the rains coming, the river will overflow from waste dumps.

            The second factor is natural factors. The rainy season is in September-April it can make a flood actually when heavy rains fall down, so the river will overflow by many garbage that waste dumps flood will be coming. Next, I will tell you what the effect of flood in the health and in daily life.

            Impossible if the flood doesn’t give an effect for our health actually for baby. The disease is often emerge when flooding is a diarrhea actually for children and baby because it will be made dehydration. Not only that, the citizens from child up to adult will be infection of fungus (fungus infection)

            Now, the other effect for their daily life is a lack of clean water. They difficult to find a clean water for take a bath, drink, and also to wash their elements of their house and body.

The more effect is delaying activity. All the daily activities that the citizens do, it will be delayed because the flood. The example of these activity (activities) are overland trip that using bus, car, motorcycle, or bike. Especially Jakarta is a famous city by the traffic jams. Not only overland trip, but also in air travel.

            So, if more citizen (citizens) has realized with what the effect and also with the things that causing a flood. We can minimize every flood in every year by our self by doing a little thing, like reforestation and also we shouldn’t throw our garbage into the river. I believe from the little thing that we have done, it will give a little change about flood in Jakarta.
